Week 36 – 100% Accountability

Professional colleagues brainstorming and planning during a business meeting in a modern office setting.

Last week, I shared that I would plan out my days, weeks, months, and even my year. I will be honest, it hasn’t been easy. Creating a plan that’s sustainable, something I can stick to even when life throws unexpected curve balls, takes a lot of  thought. How do I build structure while still leaving room for flexibility? How do I commit without letting distractions, or other people, pull me off course?

This year has taught me that the hardest person to stay accountable to is myself. But commitment doesn’t have to feel heavy. Over the past ten months, I have reduced stress, found a better work-life balance, and stopped putting unnecessary pressure on myself. Now, as I head into a new season which is this quarter I will start a new business, so structure is essential. Without it, I feel scattered. With it, I thrive.

I have read plenty of productivity books this year, and one idea has really stuck: Buy back your time.  I don’t aim for perfection, I just want to be better. Even the tasks I used to dread, I have learned to approach differently. Cooking, used to feel like a punishment, as a chef, the passion left my heart years ago. But my health journey changed that. Now, cooking and meal prepping is research and creation. I am  experimenting with healthy recipes by twisting standard meals, which I am developing for a future cookbook.

The same goes for folding laundry. I used to hate it, but after learning a few tricks from Marie Kondo, it’s no longer painful. I won’t say I love it, but it doesn’t feel like such a drag anymore.

I have  realised that how you do one thing is how you do everything. The way I  approach small, mundane tasks reflects how I approach bigger goals. It’s a work in progress, but  I am  learning to be mindful, patient, and intentional in every action.

Back to the planning and organisation part.  Writing goals down or putting them in an app is one thing, actually following through is another. That’s where this week’s habit comes in: 100% accountability. Doing what I said I would do and keeping to the plan.

I have mapped out my year, quarter, months, and weeks. Life can change quickly, so  I have taken into consideration life. Flexibility is essential,  but living only flexibly hasn’t brought me closer to my bigger goals. I have mastered the small, automatic habits, waking up at 3:45am to go to the gym, drinking enough water and sticking to routines without thinking. What once felt impossible is now just… part of my day.

Now it’s time for the bigger stuff: the goals I keep putting off, the actions that will truly move me forward. Building a system that works for me, one that shows me where I’m winning, where I need to pivot, and what is actually moving the needle, that’s where the gold is.

That’s why I have been writing these blogs. If you get something out of them GREAT, they keep me accountable. Without them, I wouldn’t have made it this far. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth every step.

So here’s my focus for this season: discipline, motivation, and proof of progress. A system that keeps me on track, shows me the wins, highlights where I need to adjust, and keeps me moving toward the bigger picture. If I can log my food every day, something I never thought I would then surely sticking to my plan can’t be that hard, right?
