Books, iPhone and AirPods on a Table

Getting ready for the New Year a time time for reflection, looking back on the year, celebrating wins, and setting new goals for the journey ahead. I am not setting new years resolutions I am setting new habits. The new year is an exciting time to renew and reset the perfect time to set aside a day for self care, reflection, and goal setting. This is a time to look back on the lessons I’ve learned, celebrate the people who have impacted my life, and set an intention to improve my quality of life. With a new journal in hand, a grateful heart, and a vision for the future, I gear up for the year ahead.

This year, I’m trying something different. It’s been a year filled with blessings, challenges, and moments of growth. Along the way, I came across James Clear’s Atomic Habits, and wow, did it hit home.  This book introduced a new way to think about goals, not just by setting them, but by focusing on the small habits that shape our everyday lives. Inspired, I have decided to take on a year long experiment: changing the way I do things by introducing (or letting go of) a habit each week for a year.

I know what you’re thinking, 52 habits in 52 weeks sounds like a LOT. But it’s not just about adding new habits; it’s about letting go of the ones that no longer serve me and becoming more aware of my actions. It can  as simple as turning off the lights when I leave a room, or finishing one job before I start another.  It’s about those small adjustments that can make life easier over time. Awareness is my word for my new year. Actively listening to others, and staying focused on the task at hand. Some habits will be about incorporating helpful routines, while others might just mean letting go of something that doesn’t contribute positively to my life. It’s not about perfection, it’s about making life smoother, bit by bit.

This journey isn’t about achievement  or adding to my plate, it’s about fine tuning little things that can bring more peace, efficiency, and joy. I will be focusing on habits that make sense for me, combining them where I can, and prioritising areas that truly matter,  health, energy, and mindset. Some habits will involve building new routines, while others might mean letting go of what doesn’t add value to my life. It’s all about making life smoother, bit by bit.

I’m excited to see how this experiment unfolds and to share it with you. Each week, I’ll reflect, adjust, and introduce a new habit, knowing that the goal isn’t to overwhelm myself but to discover what works, what doesn’t, and how these small shifts can lead to bigger transformations. This is not just about a complete reset its learning to thrive, not survive and learning to connect with my energy, understanding it, and using it to live a life that’s vibrant, calm, and purposeful. With a little adjustment and a goal for 1% growth each week, who knows what this time next year will bring. I look forward to documenting and sharing this experiment in an honest and unfiltered way.  It will open up all areas of my life and I am ready to be vulnerable.
